Nestled in the Berkeley foothills, Northbrae is known for its panoramic views, unique rock parks, pink sidewalks, lush foliage, and stone pillars elegantly carved with street names.
 
Northbrae's original developer, Duncan McDuffie, was a member of the Sierra Club and promoted environmentally sensitive development in harmony with the surrounding natural landscape. So he laid out streets in graceful curves along the contours of the hills in a general northerly and southerly direction. This gives much of Northbrae's real estate — a mix of Craftsman bungalows and period-revival homes — an unfettered, two-way view of the San Francisco Bay and the Berkeley Hills. As an added bonus, geographic features shelter the area from both excessive heat in the summer and cold in the winter.
 
Northbrae's beloved community gems include Indian Rock Park and the Arlington Circle fountain. Residents also enjoy a well-stocked library housed in a lovely Julia Morgan-designed building. There is also a bounty of interesting shops and restaurants, including the Monterey Market, to keep you busy and inspired.
