Good News & Bad News

Good News & Bad News

Happy November. Gobble, gobble, or whatever a Tofurky would say.

There's bad news and good news.

Bad news: The winter rains have arrived, "That Guy" won the election, planned tariffs will raise consumer prices—especially for home improvements—and the war in Ukraine is escalating. If you're considering selling next year, now is the time to lock in prices before Jan 21st. Prices for building supplies may rise 30-40%. Here's a link to an article from 2019 about the drastic impact of tariffs.

Good news: Ilan Penson and I will host a craft booth in the Kid's Zone (4-8 p.m.), and my hip-hop group will do a flash mob (6:45 p.m.) at the Montclair Holiday Stroll on December 12th. Here's a link to last year's dance. Clearly, we're profesh! Also, I have a new logo and tagline; take a look below and let me know what you think.

Community Yard Sale - Let me HELP!
I will sponsor Community Yard/Garage Sales in a neighborhood near you this spring! How does it work? We choose a date and time, provide each house with all the supplies needed, advertise the sale on all digital platforms, and place directional signs on the big day. Anything that doesn't sell gets picked up and donated to the right place. Respond to this email or fill out this form if you want to do one in your neighborhood.

Senior Real Estate Specialist (SRES®)
I recently completed my SRES certification. Much of the information was familiar since I've helped dozens of people empty their homes and downsize. I love working with older adults because it makes me feel young. (I'm just checking to see if anyone reads this far.) What does that mean for you? I have access to information, tools, and people who can help you with everything you need to downsize or age in place. For instance, I learned about this new thing, a-ma-bob, and I may buy it for my mother.

Drones & Home Insurance:
Home insurers regularly use drones to inspect insured homes; sometimes, the drones get it wrong, but you get dropped anyway. If you get dropped by your home insurer, call me! Since buyers can't close escrow without home insurance, we always have people who can help...we have people who know where the bodies are buried.

Take Me Pretty, Please!
My kids say I'm a Radical Recycler. Why? Because I'm a power user of Ridwell and TerraCycle, both paid recycling services to supplement our local programs. Last month, my microwave broke. When I called all the local recyclers, they no longer accepted microwaves. So, on garbage day, I put it on the street with a sign saying, "Take Me Pretty Please," and it worked. Does that make me less radical?

Do you want a beautiful Red Oak desk calendar? Let me know here or respond to this email. These calendars are lovely, but if you don't use paper calendars, let's save a tree.

How to Buy Before You Sell: If you missed our Webinar last month, here is a link to watch a replay.

New Services I love:

  • Lugg - the Uber of moving,
  • Dolly - on-demand truck and muscle to move just about anything

Here's wishing you and your family a warm, dry, joyful Thanksgiving.

With Gratitude,

Marissa
